A creative exploration of applying design and image onto fabric using printing and dyeing techniques. The course includes block, stencil, mono, riso, screen printing, batik and other resist techniques to produce work for hangings, banners, wearable items or upholstery. The course references textile design from around the world, and if learners are interested, an indigo vat can be offered. The tutor can provide patterns for creating simple stylish garments, and can offer sewing instructions to make them. The shorter Spring course offers a slightly simplified range of techniques. For more information, email the tutor: barbara.disney@ talk21.com or visit her blog, barbaradisney.wordpress.com. Fee includes cost of core materials. Learners provide their own fabric or can buy from tutor.

Tutor – Barbara Disney
I have many years experience of running courses, workshops and creating public art within a socially engaged practice.
As a printmaker I work on a variety surfaces, including textiles, paper, porcelain and enamelling metal. I use whatever technique is appropriate to the project.
This broad and experimental approach extends into my adult learning teaching. Following sessions where the different techniques included in the course are introduced I encourage each individual to develop whichever process or combination of processes will be most successful and interesting for each piece.
