When the main characters are children, a film can often experiment with adventurous, strange and enchanting storytelling. The best films about childhood seem to be those that approach the complexity of the youthful experience with an adult awareness but allow themselves to reflect the magic of a child’s point of view. We will watch a few classic films like “The 400 Blows (Truffaut, 1959), Zéro de conduite (Jean Vigo, 1933), “Night of the Hunter” (Charles Laughton, 1955), René Clément’s Forbidden Games (1952), Carol Reed’s Fallen Idol (1948). There will be a £5 DVD hire fee payable directly to the tutor.
