Workshops help you to with garden design, choosing plants and even setting up your own gardening business.
Some courses will run as online courses and some will start at Stoke Lodge. You can see the starting venue/format for each course listed below. We reserve the right to change the format of the course, in term, should safety advice change.
Japanese Gardens: History and Design
Explore the mystique of Japanese gardens, history and influence. The course will also cover various garden styles, how to avoid kitsch features, the proper use of water, plants and stone. This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge but will move online if necessary using ZOOM

Plants and Planting
A course on plants and planting for all purposes in the garden: covering flowers, evergreens, bushes, and the growing of fruit and vegetables. With content ranging from soil science to plant history this course has something to offer all gardeners who are serious about expanding their knowledge of plants and planting. Growing and Using Herbs
A practical and sensory exploration of how herbs can nourish, support and uplift us. Including herb identification and uses, tea tasting, herb growing and propagation by seed, harvesting, and drying, depending on the time of the year. This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge

Gardening Courses on Saturdays
Design your own garden
An opportunity to improve and refresh your garden with support and help from a professional garden designer. Learn how to redesign your own plot, beginning with basic principles and going on to look at paving, ponds and other garden features. A separate course on choosing plants for your garden will also be offered in the Spring term. Maximum number of participants: 8
NB It is important that participants have a garden, or part of a garden, to work on during the sessions.
Deadline for enrolment: 29 October, ie 3 weeks before the course takes place as an information pack will be sent out to students before the first session of the course. This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge but will move online if necessary using ZOOM

Growing Fruit and Vegetables
A course focussing on some practical and basic principles in home-growing techniques: practical propagation, vegetable growing and edible planting. This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge

Pruning – All You Need to Know
A practical workshop which shows you how to prune fruit, shrubs and roses. If the weather permits, part of this workshop will take place outside. Please bring sturdy shoes/boots, warm clothing, a waterproof anorak and a good pair of secateurs. This course will be delivered at Stoke Lodge
